Healing your new Tattoo
The healing time of a tattoo is approximately one week. General health, personal hygiene and physical condition all play major roles. During the healing process the tattoo may itch. It is important that you do not scratch, because this can damage the tattoo and will remain white spots behind. During your visit to Artcastle Tattoo in Zeist, we will supply a step by step instruction sheet for the aftercare.
Tattoo care
Personal hygiene is essential during the healing time. Immediately after the setting of the tattoo it will be covered with a transparent foil. You keep your tattoo covered with foil for 48 hours and replacing the foil approximately every 6 hours (this is very important)! Before getting your tattoo covered by a new piece of film, wash the tattoo thoroughly with warm water and mild, unscented soap (preferably “Unicura no. 2 Balance”) with bare hands. After washing, the soap should be rinsed with cold water. After it’s been washed thoroughly, pat (do not wipe!) your tattoo dry with a clean towel. Then anoint a thin layer of ointment Bepanthen it. Do this before you replace the film every time.
After the first 48 hours you no longer have to wear the plastic film over your tattoo. From here on apply about 5 times a day in a thin layer Bepanthen Baby Ointment (also with us in the studio separately) and use absolutely no ointment, petroleum jelly or purol. The tattoo should never dry out, so lubricate it on time!
If the skin completely sheds, you can stop applying the ointment. Don’t use wound disinfectants like Sterilon or Betadine on the tattoo. Do not wear bandages on the tattoo. It’s important that the tattoo gets enough oxygen, because this helps the healing process to speed up. Make sure you do not wear tight, wool, dirty or suffocating clothes on your back tattoo. Also watch out for dust and pet hair. During the healing process all contact with bathing, chlorine pools, hot tubs and natural swimming should be avoided. Also, do not use saunas or steam baths. Do not submerge your tattoo (although normal showering is fine). Dont’ let the tattoo get exposed to the sun or tanning beds, even with sunscreen.
If your tattoo is healed after a while, it is still very important to rub the tattoo with a good sunscreen of at least factor 10 while sunbathing. In the event of extreme redness, swelling, bleeding, change in color or pain always immediately contact your doctor. If you just follow our care advice, your tattoo will heal beautifully and really fast. Hereby go off on your own feelings and treat your tattoo in a hygienic and prudent manner.
